Cobblestones
Travel days can be split into two kinds: the ones that grind, and the ones that open something in you. Today, mercifully short between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, was the second kind.
I've been to this city before. I like it the way you like a well-made tool, practical, efficient, everything within reach if you want it. But that's the strange part. I have access to almost anything here, and lately I want almost nothing. When desire quiets down that far, you start to wonder what it was ever chasing in the first place.
None of that stopped the day from being good. Food, the way it always seems to be in this part of the world, unhurried, shared, more ritual than meal. And in the evening, a film on a screen the size of a wall, the two of us tucked into the dark together. Simple. Complete. Early enough to feel like exactly the right amount.
I noticed myself happy today, plainly and without cause. I think it comes from finally living inside the good moments instead of just passing through them. Nothing remarkable happened. No lesson announced itself. It was only a day life handed me gently, and I let myself receive it.
Life is good; I suspect it always has been. I've simply started leaning into that goodness rather than waiting for it to prove itself. The moments that once slipped past unnoticed now feel like something else entirely. Small, ordinary gems, scattered along a road I used to walk too fast to see them.
