Moments That Were Never Meant to Land

Another day on the so-called road to recovery, and living in a Kung Fu school without training may be the dullest experience I’ve had in a long while. I never thought that resting indoors, listening to the rest of the school train, could be so deflating.

The good news is that the rest seems to be working. Slowly but surely, my leg is starting to relax. What that’s revealing is a fascia problem that has taken over my left thigh, a long run of bumps that feels like a mountain range. After two years of toil, I can say I’m used to feeling a little broken. It’s a simple fact of life in this environment.

I’ve been using the downtime to start packing my room. I have collected a hell of a lot of what can only be called stuff, things I never needed in the first place but somehow convinced myself would make life better. That isn’t a big problem if you have a house to put it in. I have a few bags and no place to land. So it’s time, once again, to throw out what was never needed, and perhaps delete every shopping app from my phone. When I’m tired or low, I reach for the phone, and moments later, an order is placed for something I didn’t know existed a moment before.

I had hoped that by this stage of life, the need for bright, shiny things would have faded as quickly as the purchases do. I suppose we all have our own battles. I don’t take this one too seriously, but I do see it.

Tomorrow will be another day of rest: letting the body heal, packing the room, and enjoying the day alone, watching moments pass that were never meant to land.
