Different Phases, Same Cycle

The sun returned today with the same unrelenting force as yesterday, and the day before that. Every movement felt like it was taken through quicksand — slow, resistant, costing more than it should and returning less. The week is building, one hard day stacked upon another, and the honest truth is that it is proving harder than I could have imagined when it began.

The last few sessions have ended with me feeling physically sick. Burning from the inside out, a strange and unpleasant heat that is proving difficult to control and harder still to train through. The body is telling me something. I am listening, even if I haven't yet fully understood what it is asking.

There is a lesson in all of this discomfort. There always is. But right now, searching for it through the hot fog that seems to have settled permanently around me, I cannot quite locate it. Clarity will return — it always does, eventually — and when it does, the lesson will probably seem obvious in that way that lessons do once the conditions that were hiding them have passed. Until then, I will need to find a way to adjust. To train differently, more honestly, within what the heat is actually allowing rather than what I think it should allow.

The smile will return. The spring in the step will return. But forcing either before they are ready has never worked, and I am old enough to know better than to try.

Beyond the heat, the days are passing quietly. The learning continues to deepen at every level, which matters and is worth noting even when everything else feels difficult. And loneliness continues to make its presence felt — a companion I didn't fully account for when I chose this path. Perhaps I never took the time to consider it seriously. Perhaps I simply couldn't have imagined it would arrive quite like this, quite this persistently, in a place so full of people.

But this too is part of it. All of it is part of it.

Things are good. The grind continues. Good times are followed by goodbyes. Sometimes the heart is full. Sometimes it hurts.

Different phases. Same cycle.

That is just what this is.
