Nothing to Prove

The day began with the anticipation of a short break, but first there was training to finish.

The morning session surprised me. After a week of feeling tight, things loosened without warning, and the session flowed without tension. It felt beautiful, the way these much-needed days always do.

After a shower, a quick coffee and a short cab ride, I was on the high-speed train for a weekend getaway in Xi’an, a beautiful old city just a few hours from Wudang. I stepped off the train with a spring in my step, smiling, a few minutes away from embracing someone I’ve fallen hard for.

She greeted me at the door with a smile that starts in the heart and stretches all the way to her eyes. It’s a moment I never tire of.

The rest of the day was spent wandering hand in hand, eating, drinking, simply being. Once again, I felt the calm that settles around me when she’s near. It isn’t that we don’t do anything. It’s just that we have nothing to prove, and we let the silence be what I’ve learnt it truly is: a gift.

A life this simple may not be for everyone. It may not be forever. But right now it feels perfectly peaceful, something I could never have imagined wanting quite so much.

Today was simply beautiful, and very much needed. It’s something I’ll always treasure, walking hand in hand into the unknown, smiling.
