Today was the last day of training before a long-awaited short break. I didn’t push the limits of my ability, but I enjoyed the practice in the ever-changing weather.
It’s been three solid months since I last left the school, and lately I’ve been feeling a little stale. So when a special friend suggested a trip to Xi’an, I jumped at it. I do feel like a break, but I also really like this friend, and time with her is a pleasure I always look forward to.
In two years, I haven’t seen nearly enough of China. It’s a spectacular country that deserves time. As the training day closes, I’m smiling at the thought of new adventures on the horizon.
Sometimes you need a break, even from the things you love. My mind has been busy these past months, bouncing from one idea to the next without settling long enough to explore any of them. For the next four days, I’m going to settle, slow things down and simply enjoy the moments as they unfold. That’s close to how I live anyway, but for some reason it feels new and needed.
I’m also curious how it will feel to be away from the school I call home, and from the small town of Wudang. I’ve been here a very long time now, and although I love it, I feel somehow less connected to it than I did a year ago. Maybe that’s my doing. Maybe I’ve started taking things for granted. Time will tell. Feelings will come and go, and life will carry on toward destinations unknown.
