I woke up tired today, which is always strange after what felt like more than enough sleep. The day played out exactly as expected, or perhaps it was the day it was, because of the way I was thinking.
I’ve finished my latest sword form, and I like it. It’s a beautiful little form that lets me practise a lot of new skills over and over. But as I keep at it, I can’t help wondering why I can’t find the same enthusiasm for a form I already know and love as arrives instantly whenever I’m learning something new.
The answer is obvious. New is exciting, and I like new, shiny things that make me feel alive. As I write that, I know I have to find the spark for discovering the new in what I already know. I’m sure I’m not the first to feel this, though it isn’t something I hear spoken about often.
So tomorrow I’ll do what I’ve done every day for the last two years, except I’ll find a way to get excited about practice. I’ll look for the new, or rather the better, in the known as the hours unfold.
I’m still at the start of this journey. There’s a long road ahead and so much left to discover. I just need to take a breath and focus on what I want, not what I think I need.
Sounds easy. Let’s see how it goes.
