The Wrong Reasons

The weekend flew by, as they do these days. It was enjoyable, if unremarkable. Dinner with friends on Saturday night, then a long day of editing on Sunday.

It was strange to be editing something I have no interest in again. It felt like being pushed back into a life I care very little about, one I’ve left behind emotionally and have no need to revisit. Yet there I was, doing the so-called right thing for the wrong reasons.

It isn’t that I dislike the work. It’s that it all feels so unfocused, and I’ve found myself adrift from the foundations needed for real creative freedom. The simple truth is that I may never find those foundations again.

Life feels a little complicated at the moment. Perhaps it’s just a busy mind. Perhaps it’s because my time at the school is coming to an end, and while the future once looked locked down, it now looks indifferent. I’m not sure why. All I know is that I want to enjoy my final weeks here and get the most out of training that is humanly possible.

A simple desire, one that should lead to simple happiness.
